The Phoenix Suns earned an emphatic 115-85 victory over the LA Lakers on Tuesday night, taking a 3-2 lead in their first round series. Without Anthony Davis, the Lakers were a shadow of the side that won the championship last season and must now win game six at the Staples Center to stay alive.
From the very beginning, the Suns dominated by dribbling through a passive Lakers defence and getting to the paint time and time again. This saw them lead 66-36 at half time.
Frank Vogel made some adjustments at the break, giving more minutes to Alex Caruso and Marc Gasol, and the Lakers did edge the third quarter 27-26. But, that wasn't enough and the damage had already been done.
LeBron James even left proceedings with five minutes to go, as the Lakers ultimately fell 115-85.
"They played soft, they played with no heart, they played with no pride and they played with no sense of urgency," said former Laker Shaquille O'Neal on TNT after the game.
For the Suns, there was a scare when Chris Paul re-injured his shoulder. But, overall, this was a huge night for the Arizona-based franchise.
