Sam Allardyce has won more points at Anfield since April 2017 than all 'big six' teams COMBINED - Daily Mail

Sam Allardyce has won more points at Anfield since April 2017 than all 'big six' teams COMBINED after latest heroic defensive effort from West Brom to earn a point against Liverpool

  • Semi Ajayi's header saw strugglers West Brom secure a point at Anfield
  • The Big Six have only picked up four points combined at Anfield since April 2017
  • However, Allardyce has picked up five points in Merseyside during that period
  • The Baggies still only have eight points and are five adrift of 17th-placed Burnley

Going to Anfield is a daunting task for most Premier League teams - even their biggest rivals challenging for the title - but try telling that to Sam Allardyce, who has won more points there than all the 'big six' combined since April 2017.

The Baggies, rejuvenated under Big Sam, received a massive boost in their bid to avoid relegation this season with a morale-boosting 1-1 draw against the champions after Semi Ajayi's header cancelled out Sadio Mane's opener.

Allardyce suffered defeat in his first game in charge, a 3-0 loss against local rivals Aston Villa, but he looks to have instilled his classic plucky attitude in his players after they ground out a point in Merseyside.

Most top sides in the division will dread facing an Allardyce side but Liverpool appear to hate going up against his teams more than most. Since April 2017, Allardyce has collected five points, while the entire 'big six' have just four.

Bearing in mind that the Reds are now 67 league matches without defeat at their fortress, this is seriously impressive.

While managing Crystal Palace, Allardyce masterminded a 2-1 win at Liverpool, with Christian Benteke bagging a double to haunt his former employers.

This remains the last time Jurgen Klopp tasted defeat on home soil in the top flight.

Allardyce then assumed the hotseat at Everton in November 2017 and less than two weeks later managed to pinch a point off the Toffees' near neighbours as Wayne Rooney's 77th-minute penalty cancelled out Mo Salah's opener.

Despite Allardyce's latest point at Liverpool, the Baggies still have a uphill battle to stay up and are five points adrift of 17th-placed Burnley.

Two home games against fellow bottom-half sides Leeds and Arsenal over the next six days present Allardyce's men with an opportunity to haul themselves slightly closer to safety.
