A second report was later issued by NIED, which listed it as a magnitude 5.7 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Shingū (pop. 31,600, 76 km away), Tanabe (pop. 69,600, 92 km away), and Gobō (pop. 27,200, 116 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
