The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Taksimo (pop. 10,400) located 43 km from the epicenter, Severomuysk (pop. 4,000) 50 km away, and Yanchukan (pop. 530) 88 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kuanda (pop. 9,600) located 115 km from the epicenter.
