Light 4.2 quake hits near Salcedo, Dominican Republic

4.2 quake 13 Dec 2:07 am (GMT -4)

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in the Dominican Republic near Salcedo, Provincia de Hermanas Mirabal, 37 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Sunday 13 December 2020 at 2:07 am local time at a very shallow depth of 6 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Salsipuedes (pop. 11,700) located 9 km from the epicenter, Blanco Abajo (pop. 370) 10 km away, and Veragua Arriba (pop. 5,900) 12 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Salcedo (pop. 45,300) located 13 km from the epicenter, Tenares (pop. 7,400) 13 km away, San Victor Arriba (pop. 5,600) 15 km away, Moca (pop. 61,800) 18 km away, Gaspar Hernandez (pop. 6,500) 19 km away, and Santiago de los Caballeros (pop. 1,200,000) 32 km away.
