Under the USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA) and in close coordination with the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, USAID/RDMA’s ASEAN Office partners with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to advance shared priorities in trade facilitation, the digital economy, science and technology, non-traditional security threats – such as natural disasters and pandemic preparedness – and advancing good governance.
USAID programs directly support the Political-Security, Economic, and the Socio-Cultural communities of ASEAN to advance the Indo-Pacific Strategy by supporting a free and open, connected, prosperous, resilient, and secure region. Several activities have resulted in regional impact and significantly shaped ASEAN member state policies including: trade facilitation work establishing the ASEAN Single Window trade platform, development of the ASEAN Digital Integration Framework Action Plan (DIFAP), the ASEAN Digital Integration Index (ADII), the ASEAN Plan of Action to Prevent and Counter the Rise of Radicalization and Violent Extremism, current development of the ASEAN Public Health Emergency Coordination System (APHECS), and the upcoming launch of the Regional Plan of Action for Women Peace and Security.
The United States’ commitment to ASEAN remains strong. ASEAN is central to the architecture of the Indo-Pacific region and it’s critical to our own stability, economic opportunity, and vision for a rules-based international order for our combined one billion people. We continue to support the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and our support for ASEAN through our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is very much in line with the AOIP’s four priority areas of cooperation.
