Messi scores the fastest goal of his career for Argentina - Marca English

Leo Messi barely needed two minutes to open the scoring in Argentina's victory over Australia in the friendly match played at the Workers' Stadium in China. And he did it with a beautifully crafted goal.

The Argentinian received a pass from Enzo Fernandez on the edge of the area and then made space for himself with his left foot to put the ball past Matthew Ryan's right post.

The goal was also Leo's fastest goal for the Albiceleste. It came just one minute and 21 seconds into the match. Rounding it off, in the second minute. His fastest goal so far had been the one he scored against Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup, which came after just three minutes.

This goal is also the second fastest of the Scaloni era. He is second only to Icardi's against Mexico in 2018, which came after just one minute and eleven seconds of play.

Messi adds a streak of seven consecutive games scoring for Argentina, his best streak, and brings his tally to 103 goals, six behind Iran's Ali Daei and 19 behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the race to be the all-time leading scorer at the national team level.
