In an interview with The Athletic, Radrizzani has said that Leeds did ‘everything perfect’ in their attempts to sign the Belgian international.

Leeds reportedly made a bid of £34.1 for the versatile forward, and Radrizzani has revealed that the deal was even more advanced than that: “The only one, we did everything perfect, including an agreement with Brugge, so we had an agreement with the club but not the player, was Charles De Ketelaere.

“He was our icing on the cake, he was a special player, but unfortunately we didn’t make it.”

However, Radrizzani has revealed he has ‘one regret’ about how the deal evolved, and it was his involvement that he was upset with: “I have one regret, I should have gone 10 days before to Belgium to close the deal.

“We had a period of time that I knew Milan were slipping because of the change of ownership and I hesitated maybe a week or 10 days more, when I should have gone a little earlier.”

Radrizzani’s regret over De Ketelaere

Although Leeds fans may be disappointed that they missed out on signing De Ketelaere, they will appreciate the honesty from Radrizzani in this interview.

The Italian owner clearly did something right if Club Brugge accepted an offer for the player, and he also started to convince the player that it was the right move.

“The fact is he was watching our documentary and he was 50/50 doubtful for a period of time, makes me proud and we were in the right direction, but next time we need to do better!”

Although De Ketelaere would have been an important player in Jesse Marsch’s Leeds side, and the draw of the Premier League is always an exciting draw for players, competing against AC Milan in the transfer market is a step too far for the Whites right now.

“Good luck to him but we were competing with AC Milan and they won the title and were in the Champions League,” he added.

Leeds are still searching for a new forward this month, and Radrizzani has admitted he wants to sign a striker that everyone in the club is absolutely convinced by like they were with the young Belgian.

However, the club have already been active in the transfer window this summer, bringing in signings to improve their defence, midfield and attack.
