Kemar Roach's 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket has West Indies poised for victory in the opening Test against Bangladesh in North Sound.
West Indies on track for victory
The Caribbean side are just 35 runs away from winning the opening Test at North Sound, after they dominated the third day of the contest against Bangladesh.
West Indies will resume on day four at 49/3 and within striking distance of an easy victory target of just 84 in the opening Test.
Opener John Campbell (28*) and Jermaine Blackwood (17*) are unbeaten and the West Indies should have few problems picking up the remaining runs early on the fourth day and claiming some valuable World Test Championship points.
West Indies currently sit in sixth place on the World Test Championship standings and a win here will keep them in touch with the top five teams.
It has been a solid team performance from West Indies thus far, with veteran pacer Kemar Roach the chief destroyer on the third day.
Kemar Roach and Kyle Mayers derail Bangladesh line-up
Bangladesh resumed Day 3 on 50/2, trailing West Indies by 112 runs. They had an uphill task in front: to bat through the entire day, recover from the opposition's first-innings deficit and set up a strong target.
However, West Indies came all guns blazing in the opening session. Kyle Mayers provided his side with an early breakthrough, getting rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto, who fell for 17. The right-arm seamer took advantage of the bouncy pitch, inducing an edge which was well caught by Campbell at first slip.
His next target was Mominul Haque, trapping the Bangladesh batter in front for 2, reducing the visitors to 75/4. Two quick wickets put West Indies on top, as they continued to build pressure.
Set batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy was then joined by Liton Das as the two looked to rebuild the innings. After facing a few deliveries, Das slammed two back-to-back fours off Alzarri Joseph, contributing with much-needed runs for his side.
Joy needed a partner to stitch an important partnership, but Roach had other plans. The West Indies pacer not only did claim Das' wicket, he even took the prized scalp of Joy, who was undone by a back-of-a-length outside-off delivery.
Joy fell after making a disciplined 153-ball 42 as Bangladesh went to Lunch reeling at 115/6.
Shakib class gives Bangladesh some hope
Shakib Al Hasan used all his experience as he combined with wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan to provide the visitors a glimmer of hope with a century stand for the seventh wicket.
The pair batted superbly to ensure the hosts would need to bat once more, with Shakib eventually succumbing to Roach for a more than handy 63.
Roach picked up his fourth wicket when Hasan departed shortly after for a well-compiled 64, leaving the West Indies pacer plenty of time to complete his five-wicket haul.
Alzarri Joseph (3/55) chimed in by dismissing Mustafizur Rahman for seven, before Roach completed his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket by clean bowling Ebadot Hossain for one.
