Reported Liverpool and Everton target Malick Thiaw could be sold this January for just €5m (£4.2m), with Schalke 04 in dire financial problems.

Speaking to MilanNews, German football reporter Toni Lieto revealed that the 2. Bundesliga side could allow the 20-year-old centre-back to leave for as little as £4.2m, with AC Milan also chasing the defender.

As reported by Sky Italia via Football Italia, Liverpool are keen on signing Thiaw this January, with Sport1 also reporting that Everton are interested in the German youth international.

Thiaw has been a key player for Schalke this season, with the defender starting every match in the second-tier for the German giants and acting as a key role in the backline for the club’s promotion push back to the Bundesliga.

Indeed, Thiaw has shown to be a promising talent, with Liverpool and Everton chasing the youngster. And according to Lieto, the German could leave this month at a bargain price of £4.2m.

The reporter said when asked about Thiaw’s asking price: “€5m (£4.2m) would be a sum that would tempt Schalke into selling Thiaw. It’s ridiculous to think, but it could happen, especially if a buying club is willing to loan him back to Schalke.”

Liverpool and Everton should be all over signing Thiaw

At £4.2m, it would be hard to find a better value-for-money target in Europe than for Thiaw, who has proven this season with Schalke to be a real prospect and a player who can go straight to the top.

Indeed, with time in the January window running out, Liverpool and Everton could miss out on Thiaw due to the limited number of days left to go, yet for both clubs, they should be doing everything possible to sign the 20-year-old.
