Tuchel admits Chelsea were 'lucky' to beat Watford as they 'stole' all three points - Football365

Thomas Tuchel has admitted that Chelsea were not at their best against Watford as they were “lucky” to beat Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Chelsea were in great form heading into Wednesday night’s clash versus Watford. They were unbeaten in eleven games, with their last defeat coming in September at the hands of Juventus.

The game at Vicarage Road was halted in the first half as a result of a medical emergency in the stands. A supporter suffered a cardiac arrest but the game resumed after they were stabilised and taken to hospital.

Reality might hit Solskjaer, Lampard after their dream jobs

Shortly after the game resumed, Chelsea took the lead. Mason Mount got the goal but Emmanuel Dennis equalised for Watford before half time.

The Blues looked like they may have to settle for a point but Hakim Ziyech grabbed a winner with around twenty minutes to go.

Man City and Liverpool also won on Wednesday evening so this result sees Chelsea remain top of the Premier League.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Tuchel said after the victory that Chelsea “stole” all three points:

“That’s not us. We were absolutely not ready today for this match. I missed maybe to find the right approach to make my team ready. We had the break due to very sad circumstances – hopefully the person is better. Even this break after the first 11 minutes did not change our approach. We did not cope with the pressure, with the first ball, second ball,” Tuchel said.

“We had a lot of changes but too many faults. It did not get better. The only thing we could do was hang in there and focus on the easy things. It was a lucky win.

“I see this totally as an exception from the rule. I will not insist too long on this match because it’s so unusual for us to play like this. The next game on Saturday, the most worried I am is about the injury for Trevoh Chalobah. The doctor was on the pitch 20 times today it felt like. It’s a big loss from Trev. I’m a bit worried.

“Havertz was very strong today. I felt he was the one player reaching his level today. We missed some players. We had some players overloaded. We stole three points. We don’t have to talk around it. For the first time it feels like a lucky win.”

Ranieri suggested after his side’s loss that Watford “deserved” a point against Chelsea:

“We deserved at least a point but that’s football. I’m very satisfied with our performance. We must continue this way and sooner or later the points will arrive.

“We must believe in ths job. They’re working very well. I hope the fans are proud of us. I’m proud of my players. We pushed in every situation. Chelsea have fantastic players but all we can do is keep going and believe.

“We never gave up. We want to continue in this way. We believe this is the right way.”
