The Golden State Warriors avenged their October 28th overtime loss to the Memphis Grizzlies by defeating the Tennessee State Warriors 113-104 on Thursday night in another memorable performance by point guard Stephen Curry.
Curry erupted for 46 points and eight three-pointers to the cheers of the fans in San Francisco despite a valiant Memphis comeback in the fourth period. It was "Steph's" second-best game of the season, as his season-high is 50 points.
Payton and Toscano were key in the final minutes
The Warriors were leading comfortably in the second half, but with a few minutes to play, the Grizzlies tied the actions at 102 points, from there on the six-time champions secured the victory thanks to a wonderful triple by Gary Payton Jr. and key baskets by "Chef" himself and Mexican Juan Toscano-Anderson with less than a minute to play.
It was an unforgettable evening for the son of the living legend of the Seattle Supersonics, who scored 22 points, no other Warriors player scored in double digits.
Golden State has the best home record in the NBA (16-2) and it was just with Memphis with whom they lost their undefeated home record this season in the aforementioned game on October 28 where they let a 19-point lead slip away and ended up losing 104-101, last December 4 they lost their other duel at the Chase Center, by a score of 112-107 against the San Antonio Spurs.
Five players in double figures for Memphis
Unlike the Californians, Memphis had five players scoring in double digits and three of them with at least 20 points: Ja Morant (21 points), Jaren Jakson Jr. (20 points), De'Anthony Melton (20 points), Dillon Brooks (13 points) and Desmond Bane (12 points).
With this result, Golden State (26-6) remained second in the NBA and in the Western Conference, while Memphis (19-14) lost three games, but is fourth in the same classification.
What's next for the Warriors and Grizzlies?
In their next game on Christmas (Saturday, December 25), the Warriors can retake the best record in the NBA when they visit the leaders Phoenix Suns.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will return to the court next Sunday, Dec. 26, when they visit the Sacramento Kings.
