Doctor Strange 2 Images Reveal Rachel McAdams' New MCU Costume - Screen Rant

New images from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will see Rachel McAdams reprise the role of Christine Palmer, reveals the actress’ new MCU costume. McAdams made her debut in director Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange (2016), a film that touched upon the concept of the multiverse, which would go on to play a major role in MCU's Phase 4. After voicing her character in Disney+’s What If…?, McAdams will return in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In addition to McAdams, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will reprise their roles from the first film. Joining them is Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Xochitl Gomez in her debut as heroine America Chavez. With a script written by Loki creator, Michael Waldron, the sequel will pick up from the events in WandaVision, Loki, and Spider-Man: No Way Home and see Doctor Strange attempt to regain the power of the Time Stone following its destruction in Avengers: Endgame. However, when Baron Mordo returns, Strange accidentally unleashes an unspeakable evil. Production for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finally wrapped this month.

Piggybacking off the release of the first trailer for the film, Disney/Marvel Studios has released the first look at McAdams in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The new image of Strange, Chavez, and Palmer reveals the latter’s new MCU costume (as Night Nurse?). Check it out below:

Doctor Strange 2 Images Reveal Rachel McAdams' New MCU Costume

In the first Doctor Strange film, Palmer was Strange’s former lover turned friend, who continued to help him after his accident and venture into the world of the mystic arts. What If…? depicted a universe where, instead of losing his hands in the fateful accident, Strange lost Palmer—which drove him to madness as he sought the power to undo her death. The resulting character, Doctor Strange Supreme/Evil Strange, would go on to play a major role in What If…?’s first season and appears to be revealed in live action at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although, this could simply be another variant of Strange.

Details regarding McAdams' overall role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are scarce. In the comics, Palmer becomes Night Nurse, a doctor to many of Marvel’s heroes. The above image could feature the Palmer fans know in Night Nurse garb or a fully formed Night Nurse from another universe. In the main timeline, Strange has primarily left his former life behind, but the multiverse aspect of the sequel will likely explore more than one version of his life, perhaps including one where he’s married. From fighting Thanos to casting spells for teenagers looking to get into MIT, Strange has been pretty busy, and he’s about to get even busier in May 2022.
