Man Utd quartet 'on Newcastle transfer wishlist' in £190m January spending spree - Football365

Newcastle have set their sights on four Manchester United players in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Premier League announced the takeover of the Saudi-backed consortium this week, who purchased Newcastle from Mike Ashley for £300million – a move that’s angered the 19 other top flight sides.

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, is the man behind the Saudi Public Investment Fund and has a net worth of around £320billion.

It’s rumoured that the club are ready to spend £190million in the January transfer window, with a raft of players already linked with a move to St James’ Park.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, the Toon will target a United quartet.

Anthony Martial is reportedly on their shortlist, along with fellow forward Jesse Lingard, both of whom may find game time hard to come by with the number of options Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has in attack at Old Trafford.

Donny van de Beek is rumoured to be keen on a January exit with Newcastle linked with a move for the Dutchman, along with Barcelona.

And they will also look to improve their defence through testing the United resolve over Eric Bailly, who has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid this summer.

Newcastle director Amanda Staveley was asked about potential transfers and galactico signings in particular, with wantaway Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe put forward as an example.

She said that while Newcastle are “in the market for world class players”, it will take time for them to stabilise and attract the very best around.

“We are in the market to compete for world class players, we have done it before,” Staveley said.

“But we need the infrastructure around the world class players. We will get there, and we already have world-class players, we want to make sure they have the support around them.

“You do need a big balance sheet in football, but we are not here to be irrational. It is a state investment fund and there to look after the people.

“We have to do a full review, where the operations are, what we are looking at in January. It is going to take a little time.”
