Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo says he was shocked to score two goals in their 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Portugal international was making his second debut for the Red Devils after spending 12 years away from the Manchester-based club.
He made the perfect return as he scored United’s first two goals in a comfortable victory over the Magpies, helping to take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the summit of the Premier League.

Ronaldo was grateful for the reception he got from the fans at Old Trafford and can’t wait to build on the win against Steve Bruce’s side.
“I didn’t expect to score two goals,” Ronaldo told BBC Sport. “I expect one but not two. I have to appreciate the fans and what they did to me today. I feel so proud for that.
“The most important thing was to win and to win games. Manchester [United] needs to be where they deserve. It is to win, to build the team and build the club and the mentality.
“This is what we are looking for. Of course I am happy to score goals I am not going to deny that but the most important thing is the team and the team played good.”
Ronaldo admitted that he was “nervous” before making his return at Old Trafford but revealed the Man Utd faithful calmed him down.
He added: “It is unbelievable. When I started the game I was so nervous, I swear. It is normally because I did not expect that they would sing my name all game. I was very nervous but maybe I didn’t show but I was. The reception is incredible but I am here to win games and help the team.”

In another interview with Sky Sports, Ronaldo continued: “This club is unbelievable. I feel so proud and I’m going to give them everything to make them (the fans) proud of me.
“Football in England is different to any part of the world. I’ve played everywhere but, to be honest, England is the most special one.
“I belong to Manchester. I arrived here at 18 and they treated me unbelievably. This is why I’ve come back. I’m so proud to be here and I want to win.
“We have a fantastic team, a young team, with a fantastic coach. But we have to build up confidence and the team needs to be mature if we want to win the League and the Champions League.”
