Shang-Chi Debuts With One Of The MCU’s Best Rotten Tomatoes Scores - Screen Rant

Marvel's upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with one of the best scores for the MCU. Starring Simu Liu, the MCU's landmark 25th film will introduce Marvel's Master of Kung-Fu and kickoff the theatrical slate of Phase 4 as the first film to take place in a post-Avengers: Endgame landscape since Spider-Man: Far From Home. In addition to Liu, Shang-Chi stars Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Benedict Wong, Fala Chen, and Michelle Yeoh also star in the highly anticipated film, which is slated for release on September 3.

Shang-Chi will be the first MCU origin story since 2019's Captain Marvel and Liu's title character is slated to play a pivotal role in the franchise going forward. It will also be one of two MCU films to introduce an entirely new group of characters, with the second, Eternals, set for release in November. After Endgame's conclusion of the Infinity Saga, Marvel is looking to the future in introducing pivotal new characters in the ever-expanding universe and Shang-Chi may be one of the most powerful yet. With characters like Iron Man and the original Captain America no longer in play, Marvel is looking to build out its roster for the next big threat.

Luckily, it seems like the newest star may be one of the most acclaimed ones, too. Shang-Chi early reviews debuted today after the movie's premiere last week and, according to Rotten Tomatoes, it has one of the highest scores yet. As of this writing, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has a 93% approval rating on the review aggregating website.

Shang-Chi's 93% rating puts it in the upper echelon of MCU movies. Black Panther is currently the most well-reviewed Marvel movie with a 96% approval rating. It is also the only one of the franchise to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. All-in-all, Shang-Chi ranks fourth behind Avengers: Endgame and Iron Man, both of which are tied at 94%. Thor: Ragnarok also has a 93% approval rating on the website.

Fortunately for the studio, Marvel movies are very rarely ever received poorly. The lowest rated film, Thor: The Dark World, holds a 66% rating, with The Incredible Hulk just above it at 67%. Otherwise, it's all uphill from there and the list certainly speaks to the quality of the MCU. Marvel has perfected their formula, bringing some of the most innovating blockbusters to the big screen over the last decade. Still, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings represents a step forward for the franchise both in its diversity and in its intricate and exciting action sequences, which many critics praised in their recent reviews.
