THE Philippines reported 11,021 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Saturday, the highest reported so far this August, the Department of Health (DoH) said.
This puts the total number of infections at 1.649 million, 76,063 of which are active,
Of the active cases, 97 percent are mild, moderate or asymptomatic.
The positivity rate increased to 19 percent, which means that of the more than 56,600 samples tested, 10,817 were found positive for the virus.
There are 9,194 new recoveries to raise the total to 1.544 million, or 93.6 percent of those who have been infected.
The death toll is up to 28,835, including 162 new fatalities.
Occupancy rate of intensive care units for Covid-19 patients in Metro Manila is at 50 percent and 60 percent nationwide.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire warned that the highly-infectious Delta variant will push cases in the country even higher.
