Paul Scholes has backed Paul Pogba to extend his Manchester United contract after his stellar display against Leeds United on Saturday.
The Frenchman registered four assists and was a constant thorn in Leeds’ side as the Red Devils stormed to a 5-1 victory, kickstarting what fans hope will be a sustained title push.
United finished runners-up last season but have renewed ambition after the signings of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, who will plug the gaps in defence and attack.

Pogba, meanwhile, is in the form of his life after starring at Euro 2020, and is expected to play a leading role this season as United look to end their five-year trophy drought.
However, this could well be the 28-year-old’s last dance at Old Trafford, with his contract set to expire next summer.
Having been heavily linked with PSG, recent reports have suggested his preference is a move to Real Madrid, where he will link up with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland if all goes to plan.
Los Blancos are the club of his dreams, and his desire to play for them at the end of his United contract has never wavered, according to the Daily Star.
Scholes, though, thinks significant progress from United this season could force him into a change of heart, describing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as a team that looks poised to “go on and win trophies”.
“I think he’ll stay,” he told Premier League Productions on Saturday night.
“I think he will. When he was playing a couple of years ago in a team that wasn’t quite functioning as well as this one looks like it might do, and with the amount of attacking players he’s got, the ability he’s got, I think he’ll add a lot to this team.
“I think he’ll end up signing a new contract.
“If this team carries on in this manner, progressing like it is – I don’t want to get too excited – but it’s a team that can go on and win trophies and that’s what he wants to do.”
