Romelu Lukaku has reportedly asked Inter to accept an offer for him from Chelsea this summer, with two reasons cited.
Inter are reluctant to allow their star striker to leave the club but need to balance the books.
Achraf Hakimi has already left the Italian champions this summer, joining Paris Saint-Germain in a £54million deal, but another major player is required to leave the club to reduce their bulging wage bill.
Gossip: Khaldoon Kane ‘confidence’; Lukaku merry-go-round
It’s thought that Chelsea had a bid of £86million plus Marcos Alonso rejected by the Blues, but Lukaku has now told Inter that if an acceptable offer is made he wants to return to Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian made just ten league appearances for Chelsea having joined from Anderlecht, spending much of his time on loan before sealing a permanent move to Everton.
Erling Haaland was reportedly Thomas Tuchel’s first choice for a new striker, but Borussia Dortmund weren’t budging.
And they quickly turned their attention to Lukaku, with Inter valuing him at around £100million.
And the Telegraph cites two reasons for Lukaku – who had previously stated his desire to stay with the Nerazzurri – to now want to join Chelsea.
The 28-year-old is impressed by his former club’s determination to seal a deal, despite his lack of demand over a transfer.
And he’s also had his head turned by the plans Tuchel has for him back in west London.
Lukaku believes the German’s tactics will allow him to fluorish in the same way he did under Antonio Conte, who left Inter this summer having guided them to the Serie A title.
And Lukaku’s move looks set to spark a bit of a transfer merry-go-round, with Inter targeting Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata as a replacement for their star man and Atalanta going after Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.
Chelsea are getting confident to sign Lukaku soon. Direct talks with Inter, new official bid coming. €12m net per season + add ons offered to Romelu who’s open to re-join Chelsea 🔵 #CFC
Inter are considering Duván Zapata as replacement – and Atalanta will go for Tammy Abraham.

Fabrizio Romano claims the Serie A side will meet with the Blues in the coming days to discuss terms over a deal for Abraham, who is clearly surplus to requirements for Thomas Tuchel.
