Alaba is capable of filling Ramos' No.4 shirt - MARCA.com

Actualizado

Real Madrid finished their pre-season preparations with a goalless draw against AC Milan in Austria.

There were both positives and negatives to take from this match, with the overall style of play looking positive, Gareth Bale looking hungry and David Alaba looking good but there is still a lack of goals in the side.

Karim Benzema still hasn't played after the European Championship with France, but it looks like Real Madrid may have to rely on him quite heavily for goals once again, if Kylian Mbappe isn't brought in this summer.

On the other hand, Luka Jovic looked bright against the Italians and Bale did well to win a penalty, although he missed. Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior also performed well, but the team are struggling to create clear cut chances.

The biggest positive was David Alaba. He was immense in the 45 minutes he played, showing that he will be a top signing for the club and has everything needed to replace Sergio Ramos, even goals, which wouldn't go amiss in this side.

He demonstrated that he has the positional awareness and physical prowess to be a Real Madrid defender and almost scored from 30 yards out as he ventured up the pitch.

His performance will put many Madrid fans' minds at ease after the departure of Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Bale operated on the right wing, a position in which he excelled for Carlo Ancelotti during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 campaigns. Showing enthusiasm and challenged Theo Hernandez on several occasions, he didn't hesitate when the chance to take the spot kick presented itself.

New Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan stood firm and pushed Bale's penalty away which meant Bale's last goal came on January 20, 2020 against Unionistas in the Copa del Rey. Since then, Bale has only played five games for Real Madrid and hasn't hit the back of the net, but even still, it's been 566 days since we last saw Bale score for Los Blancos.

We hardly saw Lunin last season as he only played one game, and that was in the Copa del Rey against Alcoyano. But so far in pre-season he has shown the goalkeeper he can be. Against Rangers he was excellent and he made a great save in the match against Milan, denying Brahim whose effort was flying into the top corner. Real Madrid have their back up to Courtois.

Real Madrid played well, but in the end could not get on the scoresheet and as pre-season comes to an end, they have just one goal against Rayo and another against Rangers to show for it. That wouldnt be much off an issue if Real Madrid haven't entered the new from the place they have.

It's true to say Benzema hasn't played yet, but the feeling is the team is going to struggle with the same issues as they have done in the recent past.
