Wizards beat the Sixers, who have injury concerns over Embiid - MARCA.com

Actualizado

The Washington Wizards beat the Philadelphia 76ers in a close-run game in the NBA playoffs on Monday night, overcoming the Sixers 122-114. The fantastic attacking display by Washington's Bradley Beal and point guard Russell Westbrook, together with the injury to the Sixers' Cameroonian centre Joel Embiid, sealed the victory in the Eastern Conference playoff first round tie.

The victory was the first for the Wizards in the best of seven series as they avoided a clean sweep by Philadelphia, making it 3-1 to the Sixers.

After losing Embiid in the first quarter due to a knee injury, suffering a heavy fall behind the baseline after his shot was blocked by Cuban-American centre Robin Lopez, the Sixers were without arguably their best player.

Should Embiid's injury prove to be a serious one, it could completely change the tie and swing it in the favour of the Washington Wizards.

Philadelphia led by as much as 11 in the opening period, but that was down to 60-61 when it came to halftime. Washington took the lead in the third quarter, going into the pause with a 92-78 lead.

The fourth and last period was where Washington took the ball out of Philadelphia's hands and consolidated their victory, ending the match 122-114 to force a fifth game.

Beal scored 27 points which allowed him to surpass the 1,000-point barrier in his career in the playoffs and seal a rematch against Philadelphia.
