LA Clippers break 51-year curse by making it to their first-ever NBA Conference finals - MARCA.com

The Los Angeles Clippers have made it past the second round of the NBA playoffs for the first time in 51 years, breaking a curse that kept them out of the Conference finals for more than five decades.

Despite Kawhi Leonard's injury, Tyronn Lue's team managed to overcome the Utah Jazz and reach the Western Conference finals for the first time in the franchise's history.

Having started as the Buffalo Braves, they moved to San Diego as the Clippers and then to California, but they never managed to make it to the Conference finals.

It was eighth time lucky for the Clippers, who missed out on seven opportunities to reach the Conference finals, with only the baseball team Oakland Athletics having wasted more chances to do something similar in the major American leagues with nine consecutive failed attempts.

The Clippers have spent big over the last few years in order to establish themselves as one of the finest franchises in the NBA, with the Larry O'Brien trophy being their ultimate objective.
