Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video statement on Friday that Hamas would "pay a very heavy price" for rocket attacks and assaults on the country.

"I said that we would strike Hamas and the other terrorist organizations very hard - and we are doing just that," he said. "In the last 24 hours, we have attacked underground targets. Hamas thought that it could hide there but it cannot hide there."

Netanyahu also expressed appreciation for President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and other leaders for supporting Israel during the ongoing violence in the region.

Israeli strikes against Hamas in Gaza have leveled several apartment buildings, a media center, and has led to the deaths of several Palestinian men, women, and children. Over 110 Palestinians have died in Israeli airstrikes and skirmishes with ground forces during the recent violence. Eight Israelis - including a soldier - have been killed.

Saleh Higazi, the deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International, said in a statement that Israel's military response could amount to war crimes.

Biden said on Thursday that Israel's response to Hamas attacks was not a "significant overreaction," drawing ire from several Democrats within his party who say the US is not doing enough to support Palestinian civilians in the wake of Israeli airstrikes.
