The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 4.3 quake in Mexico near Chilpancingo, Chilpancingo de los Bravo, Guerrero, only 17 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Thursday 6 May 2021 at 8:31 am local time at an intermediate depth of 101 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Inscuinatoyac (El Pueblito) (pop. 690) located 9 km from the epicenter, Chichihualco (pop. 10,700) 28 km away, Chilpancingo (pop. 187,300) 33 km away, Petaquillas (pop. 9,800) 36 km away, Zumpango del Rio (pop. 24,700) 37 km away, Tierra Colorada (pop. 11,500) 40 km away, Tixtla de Guerrero (pop. 22,800) 44 km away, Acapulco de Juarez (pop. 673,500) 66 km away, and Chilapa de Alvarez (pop. 31,200) 68 km away.
