Antonio Rudiger perfectly sums up Chelsea's Champions League final win with one-word verdict - Football.London

Antonio Rudiger has described some of his Chelsea team-mates as "warriors" following Saturday's UEFA Champions League final triumph.

The German defender played the whole 90 minutes as Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game at the Estadio do Dragao.

Manchester City, despite being perhaps the best attacking team in the country, never really threatened the Blues with Thomas Tuchel's side defending brilliantly in Portugal.

Rudiger was integral in that, and when reflecting on the game, he labelled some of his team-mates as "warriors" - which perfectly sums up Chelsea's display on the night.

Speaking to the club's official website, the centre-back said: "We all did well. From the front to the back, everybody defended properly.

"But at the end of the day, us defenders are the last line, so we have to do the job well and we did it excellently.

"Christensen came on and he was straight in the game, Azpilicueta was a warrior, Reece was a warrior, Chilwell was a warrior. This is how we had to be and I’m proud.

Rudiger also spoke about Chelsea's lack of possession in the match, but admitted his team were prepared for this.

"I think against a team like this you have to suffer," he said.

"You know that they will have the ball, you know that you will suffer and you have to be ready for it.

Following the club's second Champions League trophy, Tuchel admitted after the match that he expects to be offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm not even 100 per cent sure, but maybe I have a new contract now," Tuchel said. "It can be, my manager said something about it, but I do not know. So let's check this first.
