Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Japan near Ise, Ise-shi, Mie, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Tuesday 27 April 2021 at 11:20 pm local time at a great depth of 379.3 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Toba (pop. 23,300, 86 km away), Owase (pop. 22,000, 87 km away), Ise (pop. 97,300, 90 km away), and Shingū (pop. 31,600, 99 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
