Second phase of Covid-19 vaccination drive begins in Uttar Pradesh - India Today

The second phase of coronavirus vaccination drive started in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. In this phase, all people above the age of 60 and those above 45 with co-morbidities will get Covid-19 vaccination.

The second phase of the immunization drive was launched in UP at 10 am. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inspected the drive at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital in Lucknow.

During the first day of phase 2, the government aims to inoculate 22,500 people. The state has three centres each in 75 districts and each centre has the mandate to vaccinate 100 people per day.

As per the directives issued by the Centre, those above 60 only to produce their Aadhaar card or any government-approved ID for vaccination and those above 45 need to provide a certificate from a doctor that mentions their co-morbidity. The certificate must be in the format prescribed by the Centre.

Those who will turn 60 in the year 2021 will be allowed to get vaccinated without a co-morbidity certificate.

The beneficiaries can avail the option of online registration through CoWIN website or Aarogya Setu app. Elderly and serious patients above 45 years of age will also be allowed on the spot registration facility.

“Those who reach the vaccination centres will get the staff present there to register on the CoWIN portal. Then they will be given the first dose of vaccine on the spot. Immunisation preparations have been completed and everything is going smoothly,” UP Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said on Monday.

India Today TV spoke to one of the elderly waiting to get his Covid-19 vaccine jab at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital.

OP Mishra, 70, said that he was eagerly waiting for the vaccination and has no issue in taking the jab. He said with PM Modi taking the shot, more people should come forward to take their dose of vaccination.

Another senior citizen, 66 years old Sarla Shukla said that the vaccination is the only way to fight the coronavirus and others should also freely take the jab when their time comes.
