Rosé, “Gone”
BLACKPINK member Rosé has finally released her long-anticipated solo debut single album R, with two new songs, “On the Ground” and “Gone.” We've been low-key jamming to “Gone” ever since it premiered during BLACKPINK's virtual concert The Show, and we couldn't be more thrilled now that it has an official release. With slow jammy beachy electric guitar as the anchor, Rosé's singular voice shines in its heartfelt multi-dimension: “Another story that's sad and true/I can feel the pain, can you?” she sings, soaring, a little heartbroken, a little vengeful. “I’ll put a curse on her and you.”
Selena Gomez, “Adiós”
Earlier this week, artist and producer Tainy told Vogue of Selena Gomez, “She has this tone that’s so distinctive. She can hit high notes if she wants to, she can explode in a chorus, but there’s this softness. It’s angelic. You want to leave space around her vocal.” It's the perfect way to describe how Selena sounds on her new Spanish-language EP Revelación, which he produced and which is out today. After a slew of interesting singles, an early favorite is “Adiós,” a mid-tempo Latin pop hit that has Selena almost in a spoken-word cadence — as lovely and hypnotic as ever.
Stephanie Poetri, “Daydreaming”
We can always appreciate a carefree song that documents a stream of consciousness. Stephanie Poerti's newly released song, she does just that. The 20-year-old released her project AM:PM that features six songs intended to be “the soundtrack to your life wherever you are and whatever time of day it is.” After listening to the EP you'll definitely be contemplating if you're more of an AM or PM person.
Chika, “Once Upon a Time”
Chika is back with a ton of new music! The rapper and Teen Vogue cover star released her EP Once Upon a Time that serves as “tales about the growing pains of life and love.” The project has six songs, including a bold opener with BJ The Chicago Kid. In addition to new music, the 24-year-old has the Grammys to look forward to this weekend as she's been nominated for “Best New Artist.”
Jorja Smith, “Addicted”
Jorja Smith stepped into the director role for her new music video for “Addicted.” The talent created the visuals alongside Savannah Leaf and the song is best described as an emotive track inspired by “focusing on wanting the full attention of someone who’s not giving enough (or any) when they should be,” as described by the singer. She adds, “the video is multiple versions of me singing the song; having fun dressing up, not trying to be too serious and just giving myself more freedom.”
Giveon, “When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time”
The only thing better than a good album, is a deluxe! On Friday, Giveon dropped When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time, which combines music from his debut EP Take Time and his sophomore EP When It’s All Said and Done. In addition to remixed tracks, fans get a new song ("All to Me") and an official music video for “Heartbreak Anniversary” that features All American actress Samantha Logan. To culminate the year since his debut, Gievon is celebrating with his “Best R&B Album” Grammy nomination this weekend.
