Carlo Ancelotti compares Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea to the Frank Lampard era ahead of Everton clash - Football.London

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti admits he is not expecting to see too many differences in Chelsea's style of play from the last meeting between the two clubs ahead of Monday evening's tussle at Stamford Bridge.

When the two sides met back in December at Goodison Park, the Blues were third in the Premier League table and flying high under the stewardship of former head coach Frank Lampard.

Chelsea were unbeaten in their last nine league outings and were looking a good bet to cement themselves in the title race for the long-haul. However, a first-half penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson sealed all three points for the Toffees, leaving Lampard and his players to reflect on a disappointing night on Merseyside.

Since then, Chelsea have, of course, undergone a changing of the guard, sacking Lampard and replacing him with Thomas Tuchel, who has enjoyed an excellent start to life in charge at Stamford Bridge, going unbeaten in ten games all competitions.

Despite the form Chelsea have within their sails and the notable improvements they have made in the last few weeks, Ancelotti is not expecting massive differences to the side that was beaten by his team only a few months ago.

“Offensively they play a little bit different but not too much because the quality of the players is still the same,” said Ancelotti, as quoted by football365.com.

“Now they are really consistent because they haven’t lost under Tuchel and they are solid, but this doesn’t mean Lampard didn’t do a good job, I think Lampard did a fantastic job while he was there.

“(Tuchel) has the quality. He is a young manager but he already has experience in Germany and at Paris so he is a manager with knowledge and ambition.”

When the two sides kick-off on Monday evening at Stamford Bridge, they will be separated by just one point, with the Blues currently on 47 and Everton 46, meaning the outcome of the eagerly anticipated clash in west London could potentially go a long way in determining the make-up of the top four come the end of the season.

For Everton to be in the Champions League mix is an achievement in itself after they finished 12th last season, meaning their improvements this term have been there for everyone to see.
