Just 24 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan. The tremor was recorded late at night on Saturday 2 January 2021 at 10:26 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 24 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CEIC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hualien City (pop. 350,500) located 65 km from the epicenter, and Yilan (pop. 94,200) 91 km away.
