An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 20 minutes ago 14 km northwest of Champerico, Guatemala, the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 48 km beneath the epicenter near Champerico, Municipio de Champerico, Departamento de Retalhuleu, Guatemala, late at night on Sunday 3 January 2021 at 11:58 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
