Milan boss Stefano Pioli refuses to rule out January move for Celtic ace Kris Ajer - The Scottish Sun

AC MILAN boss Stefano Pioli refused to rule out a January move for Kristoffer Ajer.

The Serie A giants have been linked with the Celtic defender for several months now and speculation was ripe in the summer that a deal would be done.

It intensified last month when Ajer put in a good display in the matchday one fixture between the two teams.

High-flying Milan were unable to land the Hoops man or any other centre-back and would have been looking to strengthen that position in January.

And with Simon Kjaer hobbling off after ten minutes at the San Siro, the situation has become a bit more urgent.

But Pioli admitted the window had nothing to do with him when quizzed on any potential deal.

He said: “I’m not in charge of that, I’m not in charge of the transfer window.

“We still have a lot of games to play before the end of December and then we will see then what will happen in January.”

Meanwhile, Greece manager John van't Schip has backed under-fire Celtic keeper Vasilis Barkas to come good and believes his weight loss may have contributed to his Parkhead problems.

Van't Schip also dropped him from his team - Barkas has started just one out of Greece's six games, a friendly last month against Cyprus.

And the Dutch boss, who took charge of Greece last year after previously being No.2 at Ajax and the Netherlands as well as managing in Mexico and Australia, insists 26-year-old Barkas must quickly adapt to Scottish football as soon as possible.

He said: "Vasilis has now just to concentrate on bouncing back both for Celtic and the national team.

"He lost a lot of weight since he joined Celtic too and I think he needs to adapt to the Scottish way of doing everything.

"By that I mean, the training, the games, the food, the weather, the mentality.

"Part of the job of being a goalkeeper is reacting to the pressure and criticism and I hope he will do that.

"You have to remember he was a very good goalkeeper at AEK Athens and did a really good job there.

"I still believe he is still an excellent keeper and he will show that."
