Light magnitude 4.9 quake hits 110 km southeast of Isangel, Vanuatu early morning

4.9 quake 26 Dec 5:53 am (GMT +11)

Just 31 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Isangel, Tafea Province, Vanuatu. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday 26 December 2020 at 5:53 am local time, at a shallow depth of 25.8 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Isangel (pop. 1,400) located 110 km from the epicenter.
