Fall is on the way - along with a few strong storms - AL.com

An honest-to-goodness real cold front will make its way through Alabama today, but it will bring a low-end risk for a few strong storms.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has most of Alabama in a marginal risk for severe weather today.

A marginal risk is Level 1 out of 5 and means isolated severe storms will be possible.

Tornadoes aren’t expected with these storms, but a few could bring wind gusts up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The stronger storms look to be possible during the afternoon hours.

Once those are over Alabama — all of Alabama — will get to enjoy cooler temperatures and real fall weather for the rest of the week.

Rain could linger into to Tuesday but temperatures are forecast to drop behind the front.

Highs on Tuesday will range from the mid-60s in north Alabama to the low 70s in south Alabama:

Lows this week will range from the mid-40s in north Alabama to the lower 50s in south Alabama (away from the coast). The coolest morning looks to be on Wednesday:

Another front is scheduled to move through on Thursday. It’s not expected to bring much -- if any -- rain, but it will bring a reinforcing shot of cooler air across Alabama.

Highs over the weekend will range from the mid-60s in north Alabama to the low 70s in south Alabama.

Lows on Saturday could potentially get near the upper 30s in north Alabama, and the 40s will hold across all of central and part of south Alabama. Low to mid-50s are expected closer to the coast.

And the cooler weather could hold on into next week as well. The long-range outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center shows a good chance that below-average temperatures will hang around through the first week of October:
