(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Indonesia, along with other nations hit by Covid-19, shall emerge "stronger and better" from the crisis, a top envoy of the country said during the 75th Indonesian Independence Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
The Indonesian Embassy in the Capital marked the occasion with a flag-hoisting ceremony, led by Ambassador to the UAE Husin Bagis. With precautionary measures in place, only the mission's officials and staff and a few members of the community were in attendance.
"The Covid-19 pandemic is a challenge, yet it does not halt us to remember and look back on our history through the flag-hoisting ceremony for Independence Day. Everyone involved in the ceremony has been obliged to pay attention to health protocol," Bagis said. After the ceremony, everyone shared Tumpeng, a special cone-shaped yellow rice.
"We do believe that many countries have the same burden in facing Covid-19. We believe that Indonesia and all countries affected by the pandemic could pass through this challenging situation and become stronger and better in many aspects. This momentum changed the way people, as well as countries, act. However, we will do our best," the ambassador said.
Later in the day, Indonesia's flag will be displayed on Dubai's Burj Khalifa at 8.45pm. Also, the Burj Al Arab, Adnoc HQ, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, and the Abu Dhabi Municipality building, among others, are set to light up in the country's colours.
Celebrations shall continue on August 21, with the first Panggung Gembira Virtual. There will be Indonesian music, cultural performances, talk shows, and more, streamed live on the embassy's social media platforms.
