Premier Dan Andrews has announced that the Victorian border with New South Wales will close on Tuesday (July 7), a fortnight before the planned Supercars night-race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Premier Andrews confirmed the closure this morning amid the growing cases of COVID-19 in the state, which hit 127 new cases today (July 6) after 74 were recorded yesterday.
A meeting between Premier Andrews, his NSW counterpart Gladys Berejiklian and Prime Minister Scott Morrison concluding in the three leaders agreeing to close the border on midnight Tuesday.
“The best thing to do is to close the border,” Mr Andrews said.
“That closure will be enforced on the New South Wales side, so as not to be a drain on resources that are very much focused on fighting the virus right now across our State.
“It is one of those things that I think will help us in broader terms contain the spread of the virus.”
Mr Andrews stated there will be permits made available to people, who need to travel between the two states and a system will be set up to assist with people living in border towns.
Walkinshaw Andretti United, Tickford Racing, Erebus Motorsport, Kelly Racing and Team18 are teams affected by the closure, not to mention operations that were scheduled to be part of the support card within the Super2/3 and Toyota 86 paddock.
Brad Jones Racing is a team located on the NSW side of the border in Albury, however two of its drivers (Nick Percat and Todd Hazelwood) reside in Melbourne.
It comes after Winton was replaced by Sydney Motorsport Park as host of the fourth round of the Supercars Championship.
Supercars successfully held its return event just over a week ago at SMP where crew numbers were limited, but there were increased precautions for the next event, which divided the Queensland and Victorian teams in pit lane.
