Dev Diary Details Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's Upcoming Alatreon Update - TheGamer

Monster Hunter’s latest developer diary tells us what to expect with the free content update coming on July 9th.

As we discussed earlier this week, today is the day we get a dev diary update to give us a sneak peek at Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's Title Update 4. Hosted by series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and game director Daisuke Ichihara, this dev diary showcases not just the upcoming Alatreon update but also what to expect in Iceborne heading into the fall.

But first, Alatreon, the Blazing Black Dragon. This returning monster will present a unique challenge to hunters that usually plan for a fight by bringing armor that resists a monster's elemental attacks. That's because Alatreon will actually switch elements mid-battle, going between fire, ice, and dragon elemental attacks.

So those trailers where Alatreon just breathed a lot of fire? Yeah, fire resist stuff isn't going to help all that much here.

Worst of all is Alatreon's Escaton Judgement attack, a powerful radial shockwave that will deal a ton of elemental damage unless your team can interrupt it with some powerful damage of your own.

Also coming is a variant of Barioth called Frostfang Barioth, who will be your target during an Event Quest called "The Last White Knight." This quest will come later in August and run from August 7 to August 19. Frostfang Barioth will provide a different sort of challenge than regular Bariot as well as unique weapons, armor, and Palico gear.

Capcom has also updated Monster Hunter's roadmap to show the upcoming summer events. Seliana will enjoy the Sizzling Spice Festival while Astera will enjoy the Summer Twilight Festival. Iceborne owners will enjoy a distinct Samba flare with the layered armors available during the Sizzling Spice Festival, while the returning Summer Twilight Festival will let players get older armors that they might have missed in previous years.

The fall will also bring another major update and another returning monster from previous Monster Hunter games, so stay tuned.
