Amid all the talk that the next governor of the Bank of England should be a woman, does a clue lie in the choice of headhunting firm?
It appears the company that is leading the recruitment process specialises in recruiting women in finance.
On its website Sapphire Partners proclaims: "We are trailblazers. For nearly a decade we have been advocates for women in business. We were the first executive search firm to actively promote women and we are as passionate about supporting and nurturing women now as we were then.
"We continue to be magnets for securing female talent in a market that now realises the incredible contribution that women bring at executive level.
However, it does add: "While we are champions for women, our door is open to all talented professionals, whatever their gender."
In addition, all their partners are women and five out of the six board members are women.
